Newcomers Camp

Good vibes, Oakland-style

Our Wednesdays have been busy with a special ‘Camp’ that focuses on helping some really great kids gain marketable job skills. This project is in partnership with the Rudsdale Newcomer High School in East Oakland and is designed for young adults who’ve received political asylum, but who are having a tough time in regular high school classes for all the obvious reasons. They’ve been a welcome addition to our Rescue Barn routine and have brought so much joy to the resident dogs.

The students helped us run one event at their school that offerd free spay/neuter, vaccines, microchips and training/behavior help for dog owners in their community – and another one is scheduled for May 20.
