Now accepting applications for FALL INTERN starting late August, early September.

Seeking an intern to work with BR’s Rescue Barn dog residents in Oakland CA. Position starts at 3x a week for 2-3hrs and is expected to last through to Winter 2021. Morning position. Compensation included.

Candidates must

Be at least 18yo.
Have a car.
After initial training, work dogs both independently and with others three mornings a week, for 2-3 hours each shift.
Strong preference for candidates who are physically confident, can ‘think on their feet’ and have some experience with untrained and/or athletic dogs.
Strong preference for people who’ve been vaccinated against Covid19.

Work in a safe manner, follow all rules and seek guidance from BR staff as needed.
Attend Saturday Pit Ed training classes as needed.
Transport dogs to vet appointments as needed.
Be able to keep internal info in the strictest confidence
Be willing to work indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions and on uneven terrain.
Be willing to interact with dogs of varying sizes and behaviors.
Be comfortable with reward-based methods and a variety of training collars.
Review message board and on-site notes for updates on dogs and dog needs.
Report on shift activities using BR’s online message board.
Report any problems to BR staff as they present.
Be able to lift 50 pounds.
Attend group meetings and workshops.
Have open and honest communication skills.
Mentor new handlers as appropriate.
Be able to represent BR’s mission as appropriate.

Intern will sign a contract with BR that includes terms and hourly compensation of $20/hr for work performed at the Rescue Barn. Questions about the position? Email.
