Lots of love but no resources

Huey’s first owner loved him and raised him to be the optimistic, socially happy dog that he is. He was seen walking Huey everywhere and it was clear that he was an important part of his life. Unfortunately, he was homeless with no resources for vet care, and Huey had Entropion,* which requires surgery to correct. His challenges were doubled because English is not his first language, and Owner Support programs do not exist in his part of the Bay Area.

Now the good news: a Good Samaritan noticed that his eye was swollen and infected, and convinced Huey’s owner to give him up so she could find a program to help him. He moved into our rescue facility and got a quick emergency surgery. Unfortunately, he lost that eye, but his great attitude got them through. Shortly after he got his groove on, he was adopted to a woman who travels extensively in an RV, so his love of adventure continues.

Through another adopter, a message has been sent to his former owner to let him know that his boy is doing okay. We hope he knows that we all know he did the best he could, and we’re all grateful for the work he did helping Huey grow into such a happy, well socialized boy.

* Entropion is a genetic condition in which a portion of the eyelid is inverted or folded inward. The irritation can scratch the surface of the eye, leading to corneal ulceration or perforation, pain, blindness and life threatening infection.
