For the Veterans

Many of our outreach clients are our veterans. Their dogs are an important bridge to safety, sanity and independence.

According to a report by Housing and Urban Development, as of January 2016, 39,471 veterans in the US are ‘unsheltered.’ Providing free, accessible resources that help them help their dogs is a critical part of assisting them during their greatest time of need.

This dog owner got a lift to one of our outreach events by a couple who did not know him, but who recognized his need when they spotted him with his dog. They sat with them the entire day while waiting for services and then brought him back to his camp. Keep’em Home is so often a state of mind that has less to do with having a roof over people’s heads and more to do with respecting and supporting a person’s life affirming bond with their best friend.
