Supporting ER Spay/Termination Needs

Unplanned litters have become a major animal welfare concern since housing issues started the deep squeeze, forcing families to share spaces with multiple intact dogs. The dog in this photo (story below) is owned by a family who reached out with an emergency request. Yes, their dogs ‘should’ve’ been fixed before the move-in, but finding affordable resources has been the mother of all challenges. This family did their best with dog diapers, but nature happens.

We’re committed to securing and sponsoring emergency spay surgeries whenever these situations find their way to us. In this case, we were able to locate a spay/neuter resource and sponsor the bulk of the surgeries so both the female and her brother could get fixed asap. Not easy when so many vets are overwhelmed by need, but the more vet partners we have, the easier it can be to find help.

The family’s message: ‘Hello my name is ___ and I have a little bit of an issue. I live with my mother. And we have a male two and a half year old pitbull. My brother has recently lost his house. And the only place his two female pitbulls (also the mother and sister of my dog) could go was at e my house. None of the three dogs are fixed. The other night the male dog and his sister got their diaper and wrap off and ended up knotted. My mother is on social security and I only make about $30,000 a year. And also just not sure where to turn right now.’
