Advocacy and education to buffer the storm

Young Penny was attacked by two off leash dogs a few days before her spay, and her person took a bite trying to protect her. This kind of incident can scar a dog for life and make them lose their tolerance for other dogs. As she was prepped for surgery, we talked about ways to help Penny build back her confidence and get over her new fear of dogs.

In many situations, owners of blocky headed dogs are scape-goated when a dog fight erupts, even when they’re obeying the leash laws and not the antagonizer. Advocacy work to keep dogs safe and in committed homes includes helping dog owners understand their rights as well as ways to navigate a world where they’re likely to encounter off leash problem dogs and human bullies.
