Help for an Old Friend

Heidi – In our safety net

Heidi’s human was senior, very disabled, on a fixed income and not able keep up with her care. He was devoted and did his best, but according to her vet, she was in worse shape than when they saw her the previous year. Struggling to get by, her human started to keep his heat turned off so he could afford to feed her.

We were very happy that a savvy RVT in her vet office reached out to see if we might be able to cover some of the costs via our Rainy Day fund so Heidi could get a recheck, ear packs an allergy shot (Cytopoint) to bring relief and jump start her healing. Done. Next, we made sure she got high end omegas-rich kibble to build up her immune system and help her body beat back those allergies. Her person texted: “Heidi is doing much better now since her last visit. It was so nice to have then say ‘no charge.’ Thank you for picking up last last visit. She is not scratching her ears as well asI not bitting her paws.”

We sponsored Heidi for her next few appointments but sadly, a health crisis later pushed her senior owner into an assistant living home and Heidi was homeless. A neighbor took her in until we were able to network her into a lovely new home. It took some doing, but she is safe once again and doing very well. Her new owner is hoping to bring Heidi to visit her former human and we expect that’ll be a happy day.
