Fundraising Mission COMPLETE!
In six months time, we've reached our goal!

We're thrilled. On behalf of the dogs who will start brand new lives in this space, THANK YOU to EVERYONE who gave so generously!
Please watch our BLOG for updates as the barn takes form!

It's a BigBad BAD RAP Fundraiser Pledge your support - Help us
build a Safety Net for the dogs!

These are tough times for homeless pit bulls. We’re currently working to raise a big fat $100K to create a home-like setting for dogs that have no other options.

With your help, we’ll be able to buy a modest barn (plans below), fencing for a large exercise area, kennels and basic supplies for housing more dogs-in-crisis in temporary but comfortable surroundings. This project will also allow us to say ‘Yes’ to future fight bust cases by providing a ready location for newly transferred dogs to rest, decompress and be vetted before moving to BAD RAP foster homes.

Blue Print for Barn - We shopped a 'kit barn' that will be altered to accommodate dogs instead of horses. It's not meant to be a permanent home, but a way station where some of the neediest dogs can find immediate comfort during their transition to foster homes.

Blessed Options: In addition to being a better help to fight bust dogs, we hope to create more options for shelter dogs that are too special to leave behind. BR currently brings in several 'Compassion Hold' dogs each year that may not be adoptable due to health or behavior reasons, but who deserve a time of comfort and TLC. ...What's a Compassion Hold?

Let's Help These Dogs!
Barn Raising is a lot like rescuing pit bulls -- both are big jobs that go easier when the community shows up to help. We look forward to working with you to raise the walls on this bigger project.

Please indicate 'Barn Raising' on
your check or PayPal entry.

Keep your eye on our BLOG for updates on matching gift challenges, fundraisers and general progress reports. We'll announce your gift and
raise the bar on the Petey chart. On behalf of the dogs, THANK YOU!

Dogs that benefit
Below are just some of the dogs that find their way to our program.

Kinzie before and after. She came out of a large scale cruelty case in AZ in 2008. She'd never been outside of her pen and her feet were burned from standing in her filth. She grew healthy and wise in her BR foster home and was adopted to a home in SF, where she shares her life with a woman who adores her and a Chihuahua named Zapata.

Some of Emmett's littermates were dead and he was barely alive when he was found with 100+ other starving dogs in Oklahoma. He was a shy puppy but with the help of his foster moms and his new permament family, he's finally discovering the joy of being a goofy teenager.

Hector was a celebrated Vick dog who found a safety net in our group before finally going to his adopted family in Minnesota. Now a working therapy dog, Hector has come a million miles since his earliest beginnings. Covered in fight scars, he represents why we fight so hard for pit bulls.

Sophie was a cruelty case in Oakland. We initially took her in to give her a peaceful end after seeing how messed up her little body was from a lifetime of abuse/neglect. She'd suffered broken bones, had been fought and overbred and was missing several teeth and an eye. But what a joyful dog! It turned out that Sophie was meant to live out her life with a devoted couple and their dog Bubba. We just love when the compassion cases turn into adoptions!

Gemma and Toes - These ladies are living out their natural lives in our program. We met each of them when they came into the shelter at an advanced age with medical conditions. Because crowded kennels usually go to younger, healthier dogs, Gemma and Toes both found themselves without any options. But devoted BR volunteers took them home so each dog can enjoy love and TLC in their final weeks. It's the least we can do for special souls like this.
